Good Shoes, but not the best for me

Comments about ECCO Mens BIOM Trail 1.2:

I own three other pairs of ecco biom shoes: two pairs of the yak leather B 2.1 running shoes and one pair of the leather 1.1 walking shoes. They are the best shoes I have ever owned. The materials and workmanship are of the highest quality. They are extremely light, perfectly structured, flexible, artfully cushioned, low profile, unbelievably comfortable shoes. The yak wraps around my foot as softly and lightly as a glove. I bought the first pair of B 2.1s for running, and I've been running in them for 6 months now, every other day, and they seem hardly worn. (I've written a review of them.) I bought the walk 1.1 to wear to work, but I found myself wearing them all the time. Once I became accustomed to these shoes, I couldn't wear my heavy old clunkers, or my sloppy casual shoes, so I found a radically discounted 2nd pair of the B 2.1s to wear as casual everyday shoes. Good decision!

On my non-running days, I hike up to a ridge trail and sometimes do a few intervals along the way. The Biom trail shoes seemed like a natural choice, so I saved enough money to buy the textile version (1.2), and I was excited when the shoes arrived. These shoes were from a different Ecco factory, and they had a noticeably different feel from the running shoes—but that seemed natural; they were trail shoes after all. I wore them around the house for two days, but the feeling that they were not Bioms in the same sense as the running shoes did not go away. They were fine shoes—don't misunderstand me—but there was nothing special about them. They fit more loosely, more sloppily, and unlike the yak leather, there was no impression that these wrapped around your foot or felt like a glove. The materials seemed ordinary. The workmanship seemed ordinary—nothing wrong with it. But the more I wore the shoes, the more I missed the quality and fit of the Biom running shoes. I missed that combination of being very light and yet well-structured, that feeling of perfect engineering and design, the perfect fit, the quality of the leather.

So I decided to send them back. I'll try the leather version and see if that doesn't work better. It could be that I've been spoiled by the running shoes and the walk. We'll see.

Comments about ECCO Mens BIOM Trail 1.2:

I got into trail running very recently and have been looking and looking for a good trail shoe. I always wanted to get an Ecco Biom and this was a good decision for me.

Now that I am into natural running - I run Newtons on the road and given my desire for a Biom, the choice was easy. Took it out for my first run today in woods and the grip and the way it held my foot on the sides was excellent. The lugs were great and took roots and rocks very well and my underfoot did not feel anything. I loved the feel of the shoe and it was light!

Have you ever felt like everything is right in the world? Like your chi is balanced? Almost like a natural high. If you answered "no" it's probably because you don't own these shoes...
