ECCO Athlete Martin Jensen Wins Ironman 70.3 Racine

Wearing BIOM EVO Running Shoes
Danish Star Continues Return from Injury with PB Half Marathon Split and Race Time

Londonderry, NH, October 15, 2012: Danish brand ECCO – a global leader in footwear innovation – announces that staff athlete Martin Jensen finished first at Ironman 70.3 Racine this past weekend while competing in the brand’s acclaimed BIOM EVO RACER running shoes.

In just his fifth competition of the year following a 2012 season marred by injury, the 29-year-old Dane recorded a career best half marathon split (1:15:16) and race time (3:47:05) en route to his first-ever victory at the 70.3 distance.

“It was just one of those days where nothing could go wrong,” says Jensen. “To come back to this level after my injury, and be in a position where my ECCO BIOM EVO RACER shoes can help me win races, is amazing.”

After leading the pack out of Lake Michigan, Jensen posted a personal best bike split but still arrived in T2 1:45 behind the leader. Pushing to make-up ground, he re-gained the lead at 8K of the run and surged to the tape by recording his fastest-ever half marathon time by almost two minutes.

“This was a really deep field that included several Olympic, world and European champions, so it was no surprise that the winner was decided on the run,” says Matthias Schwarte, Marketing Manager, ECCO Sport. “Returning to the top of the podium at this race in particular should give Martin a ton of confidence throughout the rest of the season.”

Launched as part of the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, BIOM EVO RACER is made using the Direct-injection process. This highly technical manufacturing method results in a lightweight, durable, one-piece shoe with exceptional cushioning, comfort and performance characteristics.
