Rasmus Henning bids farewell to triathlon at Kona 2012
October 14, 2012, Hawaii: Scandinavia’s top triathlete and ECCO brand ambassador Rasmus Henning has completed his last competitive race at the prestigious Ironman Kona 2012.
Rasmus completed the race in 08:53:39 to take 22nd place, a respectable finish for the Danish athlete that has given his all to the sport in a 13 year career.
This season, Rasmus has triumphed with wins at the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon, the Half Challenge Fuerteventura, the Calgary Half Marathon and the Ironman 70.3 Timberman, a fantastic performance following a difficult couple of years for the athlete.
Rasmus’ career began over a decade ago where he won his debut iron-distance race in 2000 before turning his attention to the short course where he won five ITU World Cup titles. In 2009 Henning returned to long distance racing where he won his first race at Ironman China before finishing 5th at his first Ironman Kona despite a broken hand.
Fellow Scandinavian and ECCO ambassador Michelle Vesterby made her debut at Kona. Tackling the challenging course for the first time, Michelle finished 12th in women's overall with a time of 09:42:22, a great result for the athlete who only completed her first Ironman distance in November 2011.
It marks the end of a great season for Michelle, who turned to the sport in 2008 after a successful swimming career. She has continued to improve year on year with 2012 marking arguably her most successful season. A 9th place finish in the incredibly competitive Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship was followed by a win at Lanzarote Ironman and second place at Ironman 70.3 Haugesund, securing her a place on the starting line at Kona.
Matthias Schwarte, Marketing Manager, ECCO Performance, says:“We’re extremely proud of Michelle and Rasmus’ performances at Kona as the only two Scandinavian pro-athletes to qualify.
It’s been a pleasure working with Rasmus since 2009 and he has provided invaluable insight as an elite athlete into the development of BIOM Running Range. We wish him every success in his next venture. Michelle is a rising star in triathlon and we’re delighted with her success this season and at her Kona debut. We are sure that Michelle has a bright future in triathlon and ECCO look forward to supporting her along her journey.”
Rasmus and Michelle premiered the ECCO BIOM EVO RACER at Kona, available from spring 2013. Streamlined to a featherweight 220grams with a second skin fit for greater comfort and breathability, the ECCO BIOM EVO RACER is the most advanced Natural Motion shoe available and is a leap forward in ECCO’s innovative Natural Motion technology.

ECCO believes that form follows function. This means creating shoes that combine freedom of movement with intelligent support that enables the foot to move naturally. ECCO BIOM shoes increase comfort - and capabilities. We call this Natural Motion.
In 2008, ECCO started "The BIOM Project" with the modest goal of reinventing running shoes. Based on the idea that Natural Motion could outperform motion control, ECCO created the BIOM Run series of shoes. BIOM technology is the culmination of the Scandinavian belief that form should follow function. Today, ECCO is the only shoe company with a broad offering of natural motion products that enable a freer, more active lifestyle.
